Leonarda Cianciulli - the 'Soap-Maker of Correggio'
This is the tale of Leonarda Cianciulli, known as the 'Soap-Maker of Correggio', a gentle-looking woman who shocked all of Italy with her heinous crimes of murder and macabre repurposing of human bodies

The poisoning of innocent victims and creation of human soap

Cianciulli's malevolent path started during the World War II. The fortune teller's prediction, claiming that she would outlive her children, had invoked a pathological fear in her.

To protect her most beloved son, Giuseppe, from the clutches of war, Leonarda believed she needed to offer human sacrifices. Her victims were lured into a trap of deceit under the pretext of providing them a better life.

The unsuspecting women were offered drinks laced with lethal doses of drugs, leading to their sudden demise.

Post the murders, Cianciulli displayed an unspeakable brutality in dismembering the corpses, boiling the remains to extract fat and raw materials which she used for making soap.

The bones were ground into powder and mixed with the dough to bake cakes and biscuits, inviting local children and her son to partake of the human remains unknowingly.
