This is the tale of Leonarda Cianciulli, known as the 'Soap-Maker of Correggio', a gentle-looking woman who shocked all of Italy with her heinous crimes of murder and macabre repurposing of human bodies.
Daughter of a superstitious and tormentous mother, Cianciulli grew up amidst hardship, attempted suicides and a deep-rooted belief in the supernatural.
Combining a love for superstition, a desperate need for protective rituals and a fear born out of predictions by a fortune teller, Cianciulli discarded her facade as a friendly neighbour and soap maker to descend into the world of crime, and ultimately, serial killing.
