The Man Who Popularized the Ponzi Scheme
The story of Charles Ponzi

Charles moves to the United States of America

Charles didn’t turn into one of America’s worst swindlers over night. It was a gradual development. When life in America didn’t go as planned, he moved to Canada where he worked for a bank that eventually closed, leaving him jobless once again. This situation led to Charles turning to crime.

While in Canada, he was arrested for forging a bad check and sentenced to three years in prison. Upon his release, he moved back to America where he got involved in smuggling Italian immigrants from Canada to America, and again was caught and sentenced to a further two years in prison.

After prison, Charles moved to Atlanta where he then married Rosse Gnecco in 1918.
